winter mexico 2022
winter mexico trip 2022
i've never known a love like the one found in mexico
little stabs of joy
this was a concept we discussed the first night of this immersion trip
this is what our team used to describe moments that were almost like a glimpse of the kingdom. moments so full of joy, light, and His glory. moments that go straight to your heart. those little moments that leave big impact.
this second trip, we had many stabs of joy.
this week showed me what genuine authentic love looks like.
let me tell you about April, one of my real life heros and greatest inspirations.
April and her husband Bob open up their home for our missions team to stay on the weeks we are there. She's from california and spent a lot of time traveling from here to Mexico. similar to myself, she fell in love with mexico and felt like her heart was there, so she packed up everything she knew and moved. When they first got to mexico she didnt speak any spanish (dont get me wrong she still doesnt speak much spanish LOL) so she learned how to ask people if they needed a ride somewhere. this is simply how she would spend her early days there, driving people around where they needed to go. our team asked her, "how were you able to serve if you didnt speak their language"
her answer was simple, and is something i think about every day
she said, "they know that i love them, and thats all that really matters"
i strive to have a mindset and heart that reflects that. i pray each day i would learn more and more how to set aside things that don’t matter and be more intentional about loving God’s people.
some memories from the week:
becoming friends with a little girl who wanted nothing more than to run around in the dirt and laugh
watching little victoria tell alexis not to be sad because she would see her tomorrow on one of our last days in country
the mom of this family buying our whole team pizza even though that meant a large sacrifice for her
getting to tell stories with estella and continuing to be inspired by her eagerness to serve people
learning so much about the value found in Christ centered community
lighting fireworks on the beach with my best friends
here's an entry from that weeks journal:
some points from tongihts team debreif:
don’t let yourself be underwhelmed by the things that are beautifully simple
stay humble in your approach to life
look at what the world needs and see what you can do about it
it’s so simple just to love people.
we want the life of Jesus but we aren’t willing to live the lifestyle of Jesus. you can’t have one without the other.
technology for the sake of others not at the expense of others.
community is loving each other because He first loved us.
the christian that walks alone will fall into sin. we were built for community.
this was supposed to be my last trip with the school, but man am i thankful that it wasnt.
winter 2022 was one for the books
peace + love
P.S. a week after this i got my official acceptance letter from YWAM and that was the biggest answered prayer :) God is so good!!!
